Sir Chantz R.Powell, 34-years old from New Orleans, is an international recording artist and powerhouse entertainer. Chantz is part of a new generation of young artists who have discovered great music… old school meets new school… think, Sammy Davis, Jr. meets Usher.
In July 2009, Chantz was requested as a headliner for the Oprah “Cruise of a Lifetime” on the NCL Gem Cruise Ship.
Since the age of 15, this singer, trumpeter, dancer, songwriter, producer, and actor has been a headliner before crowds of 40,000+ throughout Asia and Europe. He has headlined at notable venues such as the: 2022 New Orleans Jazz Festival with the “Playing for Change Band,’ New Orleans Jazz Museum, the 2017 San Javier Jazz Festival, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Manchester, Belfast, and Sheffield Arenas. Chantz has also headlined at Holland’s North Sea Jazz Festival, the World Beat Festival in Tunisia, and he was an opening act at the Slida Jazz Festival in Norway. He has also been a headliner at Ronnie Scott’s in London, the Quai du Blues in Paris, Catalina Jazz Club, Los Angeles, and was an opening act for Dee Dee Bridgewater at the Strasbourg Festival and an opening act for Maceo Parker at the Juan Les Pins in Antibes, France. Chantz has performed at major corporate and private events, such as Melbourne Cup, Melbourne, Australia, Lavazza, Istanbul, Turkey (yearly event), etc. Chantz has been on tour with the “Playing for Change Band” for several years.
Sir Chantz Powell was featured in “Rolling Stone Magazine & Music video on the song “Chan Chan” with the “Playing for Change Band,” which has received 6.4 million views ( Doyle, P. 2020), Chantz was signed to Decca/Universal Records at the age of 16. His current album, “Stories of Me,” released on that label, was recorded at Conway Studios with an 18-piece jazz orchestra under the musical direction of Jerry Hey. The very personable New Orleans native has performed as a special guest with The Duke Ellington Jazz Orchestra at the Birdland in New York and as a special guest with The Dizzy Gillespie Jazz Orchestra at the Bahi Center in Los Angeles. He has also been a special guest with the Irvine Pacific Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Colburn Children’s Choir of Los Angeles.
Chantz was the subject of an excellent one-hour documentary, The Child of Jazz and Chance It, released throughout Europe. Produced by French director/photographer Mohammed Kounda and initially released in London as My Louis Armstrong Years, the documentary received international acclaim and nomination consideration in the “Best Documentary” category at The Cannes Film Festival.
The brilliantly chronicled documentary spans five years, showing the remarkable transformation of a 12-year-old Jazz-loving student evolving into a seasoned professional among his mentors and peers, Wynton Marsalis.
A favorite on the high seas, Chantz has just completed nearly a year’s long stint on the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). Sir’ Chantz Powell is a sure fit into any line-up & can place in any arena! Chantz has carried his weight as a headliner on many platforms and an opening act for A & B list artists (Internationally). His new album, “Movement for the People,” is scheduled for release soon!
